| Daunting? Confusing? But oh so cool! Don't let the options.txt files scare you. Too late? Don't worry, you're at the right place. Unlimited Product Options Those small options text files give you complete flexibility in marketing your products. Just a few examples of the way options are used...
The Concept: Through the use of small text files you have unlimited flexibility in setting up your store. Many shopping cart programs costing 100's of dollars only offer two options for an item. Each item or group of items can use a single small text file for additional selections regarding the product(s). For instance, you might have 18 items that require the user select Small, Medium, Large and X-Large for size. All 18 of these products use the same additional shipping methods. That's two options for each item, size and additional shipping. Now 7 of those items come in beige, navy and khaki - 6 come in beige, navy, khaki, chocolate and forest green and 5 come in beige, khaki and forest green and these 5 come in long and short sleeve. The traditional method of working with this inventory would be to input the options, given you were allowed that many, for each separate item. Let's see that's 3 options for the first seven (size, shipping, color) totalling 21, 3 options for the group of six (same options/different colors) for another 18 (3x6=18) and for the last five, 4 options are needed (size, color, shipping, long or short sleeve) for a total of 20. Adding these up we have a total of 59 separate options we've had to enter. Wanta add a gift card - another option, want to add an accessory - another option. See what I mean. And traditionaly only the most expensive online shopping systems offer three or more options per item. By using options files we would only enter the options 3 times. The first 7 items will share one options file, the next 6 will share one options file and finally the last 5 will share an options file as well. Of course these option files, which are actually only a few lines, can be used for future products that fit in these groups and modified easily for others.
